"What are the natural features which make a township handsome?  A river, with its waterfalls and meadows, a lake, a hill, a cliff or individual rocks, a forest, and ancient trees standing singly.  Such things are beautiful; they have a high use which dollars and cents never represent.  If the inhabitants of a town were wise, they would seek to preserve these things, though at considerable expense; for such things educate more than any hired teachers or preachers, or at any present recognized system of school education."  - Henry David Thoreau

In November 2010 Bordentown City was certified at the Bronze level by the Sustainable Jersey program. In addition, the City received the Sustainability Champion Award in the Small Communities category. More...

NJ Clean Power/Change A Light Challenge!

The Bordentown City Environmental Commission has joined the NJ Clean Power Community Partnership in an effort to help educate Bordentown City and area residents about the climate change benefits of choosing CleanPower (wind, solar, hydro) and switching to energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). We hope to build awareness about CleanPower options and energy conservation, and greatly increase the number of local residents enrolling in the NJ CleanPower Choice Program and switching to energy-saving CFLs.

Toward that end, we are asking area residents and businesses to meet the goals of the following two challenges towards making Bordentown City and New Jersey more sustainable places in the future:

1- Change A Light Pledge

BCEC has set a goal of having 200 residents change 5 regular incandescent light bulbs to energy-saving compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) in 2008.

Click here to sign the pledge online (make sure your indicate Bordentown City Environmental Commission referred you) and find local retailers that sell CFLs.  Please email BCEC when you have signed the pledge, and we will deliver 1 CFL to you to help you get started!

2- NJ Clean Power Choice Program

BCEC has set a goal of having 2% of our households sign up for NJ Clean Power Choice program in 2008.

By doing so, you choose to purchase clean renewable energy (wind, solar, hydroelectric, landfill gas), combat climate change, and support the expansion of the green technology industry in NJ. Click here  or call (866) 657-6278 ext. 3  to sign up!
